After his chart-topping success with All of Me, Toby spent 5 weeks in the studio with Madonna in summer of 2014 working on songs for her 13th studio album. Alongside Diplo, Mozella and others, Toby wrote over 13 songs with Madonna and her team. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Madonna said “…some people I connected to immediately like…[“If I Were a Boy” co-writer] Toby Gad. They’re very open-hearted people, extremely musical, not inhibited in any way, shape, or form. So they were fun.” Toby wrote on “Bitch I’m Madonna”, “Hold Tight”, “Illuminati”, “Living for Love”, “S.E.X”, “Unapologetic Bitch”, “Vendi Vidi Vici”, “Best Night”, “Joan of Arc”, “Iconic” and “Graffiti Heart”, producing on the latter four songs.
After being asked by the UN to write a song for Global Warming Awareness, Toby, John Shanks, Natasha Bedingfield and Sean Paul wrote LOVE SONG TO THE EARTH. Toby and Natasha performed the song in NYC at the Climate Summit in the General Assembly and then set out to produce an all stars version together with John Shanks featuring Paul McCartney, Jon Bon Jovi, Sheryl Crow, Fergie, Colbie Caillat, Natasha Bedingfield, Leona Lewis, Sean Paul, Johnny Rzeznik, Krewella, Angelique Kidjo, Kelsea Ballerini, Nicole Scherzinger, Christina Grimmie, Victoria Justice, and Q’Orianka Kilcher. Every cent of the proceeds from “Love Song to the Earth” go directly to “Friends of the Earth” and the “UN Foundation” to fund their efforts in fighting climate change.” Jerry Cope, a dedicated activist and powerful visionary, was intstrumental in pulling the strings together for the single and masterminding the videos. “I hope this song will broaden the audience for this urgent message and give the politicians emotional support for meaningful Climate Legislation,” says Toby Gad.
Having known Chloe for years, Toby partnered up with her to support her personal fight and global charitable efforts against Pulmonary Hypertension. Drawing on the disease’s impact in helping Chloe see the beauty in the most ordinary things and to be thankful for what we most quickly take for granted, the two penned “Breathe” for her album “Be Brave”.
After years of collaboration with Simon Cowell and SYCO Music, Leona split from the label to re-find her sound and image. She chose Toby to do that soul-searching with, and Toby became the Executive Producer for Leona’s groundbreaking new record, “I Am” with Gad Producing/Co-Producing/Co-Writing 14 out of the 15 tracks on this deluxe album. The lead international single, “Fire Under My Feet”, is an anthemic return to her place in music and the discovery of her own artistic voice. Leona followed “Fire’s” success with “I Am” in the UK. “Thunder” was released as the first US single, a song about “the strength of rising after the fall.”
